The art class Creative City is a way to develop one of the five major strands of the NYC DOE’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Visual Arts—i.e. Community and Cultural Resources—into a self-contained curriculum open to arts-based intersections with STEM as well as additional art-historical background information. It explores what visual arts learning means to us as city dwellers, as New Yorkers, as Brooklynites. We will take a closer look at our community and cultural resources by playfully experimenting with how one goes about making the many different creations around and/or about us. We will study the different materials, tools and ways of thinking that we need in order to find out how the different subject matters and/or forms we have chosen can interconnect in a final project: a co-created creative city..
